DEEP PURPLE Albums Being Reissued On SHM-CD

December 18, 2008

According to a posting on The Deep Purple Appreciation Society web site, the first three DEEP PURPLE reunion albums — "Perfect Strangers" (1984),"The House Of Blue Light" (1987) and "Nobody's Perfect" (1988) — will get the SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) treatment in paper sleeve editions. They will be issued in this format in Japan in late February 2009 as limited editions.

According to Positive-Feedback.com, Super High Material CD is an improved version of the Compact Disc material that uses super-quality, enhanced transparency polycarbonate material developed for use in LCD screens. They will play in any CD player. Universal Music Japan and JVC co-developed the SHM-CD. They report that the new material allows the pits to be formed more precisely plus eliminates laser splatter. The signal characteristics are improved as a result with overall lower distortion and better musicality.
